The Muslim community is mourning the loss of a revered Islamic scholar and preacher, Sheikh Muyideen Ajani Bello, who passed away at the age of 84. The announcement of his death was made on Friday by Sheikh Akewugbagold Taofeek, an Ibadan-based cleric, in a deeply emotional Facebook post.
Sheikh Bello, fondly remembered as the “Sultanul Wahizeen” (Leader of Preachers) in Yorubaland, was renowned for his fearless and impactful sermons. Born in Oyo State, he dedicated his life to spreading Islamic teachings and mentoring countless individuals across Nigeria. His eloquence, charisma, and unwavering commitment to his faith earned him respect and admiration far and wide.
In his tribute, Sheikh Akewugbagold expressed profound grief, describing it as one of his saddest days. He prayed for Allah’s mercy and eternal rest for Sheikh Bello, saying:
“Our heart is full of grief and our eyes full of tears, but we will say nothing except what will please our Creator, the sole commander of life and death—ALLAH.”
The scholar’s passing was also confirmed by his son, Alhaji Basit Olanrewaju Katibi Bello, popularly known as Aponle Anobi. In a heartfelt social media post, Aponle Anobi shared crying emojis alongside a picture of the late Sheikh, reflecting the immense sorrow felt by the family.
Sheikh Muyideen Ajani Bello’s legacy is one of devotion, knowledge, and inspiration. His sermons touched lives, and his leadership in Islamic scholarship paved the way for a deeper understanding of the faith.
