Must read

Nigerian Afrobeats superstar Davido has extended his congratulations to Tems after she clinched the award for Best African Music Performance at the 67th Grammy Awards held at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles on Sunday.

Tems won the prestigious award with her hit song “Love Me Jeje,” marking her second Grammy win. She previously secured a Grammy for her collaboration on Future’s chart-topping single “Wait For U.”

The Best African Music Performance category featured a competitive lineup, including Yemi Alade’s “Tomorrow,” Asake’s “MMS,” Chris Brown’s “Sensational” (featuring Davido & Lojay), and Burna Boy’s “Higher.” This category, introduced in 2023, was previously won by South African star Tyla for her global hit “Water.”

Davido’s Reaction

Shortly after the announcement, Davido took to his Instagram Story to celebrate Tems’ victory, posting “Congrats Queen!” in recognition of her achievement.

Tems’ Emotional Speech

While accepting the award, a visibly emotional Tems paid tribute to her mother, whose birthday coincided with the Grammys ceremony.

“Wow, dear God. Thank you so much for putting me on this stage and bringing me this team,” she said.

She continued, “Tomorrow is my mum’s birthday, and this is her first Grammys. I just want to thank you, ma, because she has really done a lot for me and my brother. Happy birthday, Mum.

Tems also expressed gratitude to her team, mentioning Muyiwa, Wale, her stylist, and close supporters. She concluded her speech by giving credit to God, saying, “To God be the glory. Honestly, He has changed my life so much.”
