Lagos State Government Set to Commission 36 Road Projects and 5 Bridges in December 2024

In a significant move to further enhance infrastructure and improve the quality of life for Lagosians, the Lagos State government, under the leadership of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, is set to commission a total of 36 road projects and 5 bridges this December. The announcement was made by the Special Adviser on Infrastructure, Engr. Olufemi Daramola, during a press briefing held on Friday, 6th December, 2024, at the Bagauda Kaltho Press Centre in Alausa, Ikeja.

Engr. Daramola expressed the state’s unwavering commitment to completing these critical infrastructure projects despite the current global economic challenges and rising inflation, which have led to significant cost increases. According to the Special Adviser, the Sanwo-Olu administration remained resolute in ensuring that these projects were not abandoned, with a firm priority placed on the completion of key roadways and bridges that are poised to ease traffic congestion, enhance mobility, and contribute to the overall development of Lagos.

He emphasized that, “Despite the prevailing economic challenges, including soaring inflation which threatened to derail the execution of these projects, the administration of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu remains determined to fulfill its promise of improving the living standards of Lagosians through quality infrastructure.”

A Comprehensive List of the Road and Bridge Projects Set for Commissioning

The planned commissioning will see the completion of various road networks, including rehabilitated, upgraded, and newly constructed roads across the state. These roads are spread across several local government areas, touching various parts of Lagos that have long needed attention. Among the key projects are:

  • Rehabilitation and Upgrading of Babajide Sanwo-Olu Road (Dopemu Road) in Agege: A key artery in Agege, this road is set to ease transportation in the bustling region, benefiting both commuters and residents.
  • Construction of Babafemi Dada with Bridge – Yinka Folarin – Jamiu Lawal – Shalom Academy Road Network in Alimosho LGA: This new road network promises to improve connectivity within the Alimosho area, reducing congestion and enhancing the ease of movement.
  • Construction of Abaranje Road in Alimosho LGA: This road will provide vital access for residents and businesses in Alimosho, further contributing to the growth of the area.
  • Reconstruction and Dualization of Irede Road in Amuwo Odofin LGA: The dualization of this busy road is expected to facilitate smoother traffic flow, reducing travel time for those commuting in and out of Amuwo Odofin.
  • Rehabilitation and Upgrading of Mumuni Adio (Buba Marwa) in Amuwo Odofin: This project will improve infrastructure and mobility for residents and businesses in this important commercial area.
  • Navy Town (Section 1) Road in Amuwo Odofin LGA: Addressing the strategic Navy Town area, this road upgrade will improve access to a significant defense and residential hub in Lagos.
  • Reconstruction of Old Ojo Road (Phase 1) from Iree to Oluti in Amuwo Odofin LGA: Another significant upgrade to Old Ojo Road will improve access to the industrial and residential areas within Amuwo Odofin.
  • Rehabilitation of Aradagun-Mosafejo-Ajido-Imeke Road in Badagry LGA (Phase III): Continuing the development of Badagry, this phase will offer better connectivity between key communities in the region.
  • Construction of Samuel Ekundayo Road in Badagry LGA: This road will contribute to improved mobility in Badagry, benefiting residents and local businesses.
  • Reconstruction of Hospital Road (Phase 1) in Badagry: The upgrade of Hospital Road will enhance access to healthcare services and improve traffic flow for the community.
  • Construction of Eluku Street/Mosafejo, Agbowo Ikosi in Epe LGA: This project will better connect the Agbowo Ikosi area, contributing to the development of Epe as a key commercial hub.
  • Rehabilitation and Upgrading of Ilabere, Ilu, and Inupa Roads in Ikoyi, Eti-Osa LGA: Serving one of the most prestigious areas in Lagos, these roads will improve accessibility for residents and increase the appeal of the Ikoyi neighborhood.

These projects represent a robust effort to boost the state’s infrastructure, reduce traffic congestion, and make movement within Lagos smoother and more efficient for everyone.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration has been at the forefront of infrastructural development in Lagos, with a clear vision of transforming the state into a world-class megacity. The completion and commissioning of these projects will not only improve day-to-day commuting but also contribute to the long-term growth and economic development of the state.

The Special Adviser on Infrastructure, Engr. Olufemi Daramola, assured that all projects would be handed over to the public starting Monday, 9th December 2024.

“Through these strategic developments, we are laying the foundation for a Lagos that works for all its residents, offering them the opportunities to thrive while ensuring that the infrastructure keeps pace with the growing demands of the city,” Daramola concluded.

This December, as these roads and bridges are officially opened, Lagosians can expect smoother commutes, faster connections, and more efficient access to key areas of the state, marking another milestone in Lagos’ journey toward becoming a truly global city.
